Obituary

Linda Marie Davey, 79, Mission Viejo, CA passed away on June 3, 2024 in Laguna Hills.

Linda Marie Broderick was born in Boston, MA in 1944 and later relocated to Altadena, CA with her parents, James Albert Broderick II and Helen Broderick, along with her older brother, James Albert Broderick III. She graduated from John Muir High School in 1962 and married shortly thereafter. Linda’s legacy lives on through her two children and their spouses, Michael (Sandra) Davis and Jennifer (Joseph) Hovsepian.

A woman of remarkable resilience and determination, Linda embarked on a journey of self-improvement following her divorce. Despite facing numerous challenges, she pursued her Insurance Certification through night school, commuting tirelessly from Altadena to Los Angeles by bus, enduring three transfers along the way. Starting as an Administrative Assistant, Linda’s dedication and hard work propelled her to the position of Workers Compensation Claims Examiner. Linda worked long hours and had to navigate many obstacles to provide for her children. Her career path eventually took her to Orange County where she was promoted to the role of Manager of the Brea office for UniCare Insurance Company. Linda’s professional competency was matched only by her warmth and leadership qualities, earning her the admiration and gratitude of colleagues who often credited her for their own career advancements. With an open-door policy and a desire for equality, Linda fostered an environment where her team thrived.

Beyond her professional achievements, Linda possessed a deep passion for exploration and creativity. Her travels took her to destinations such as Austria, Germany, China, Italy, France, Turkey, and Greece, each journey filling her with stories to share and memories to cherish. That passion continues to live on in her son and daughter, who inherited her love for exploration.

In her youth, Linda was drawn to artistic pursuits and spirituality, engaging in activities such as painting, astrology, and even séances, where laughter and camaraderie were plentiful. She eagerly embraced the opportunity for a palm reading or a tarot card session whenever it arose.  Later in life, she found solace and fulfillment in knitting and quilting, using her talents to bring comfort to those undergoing chemotherapy through her donations of handmade quilts and knitted hats. Linda had a keen affinity for her iPad, embracing the latest in technology to stay in touch with current trends.

Linda’s magnetic charm and quick wit endeared her to all who crossed her path, her kindness and humor leaving a lasting impression. Her love for animals knew no bounds, as evidenced by her willingness to embrace the menagerie her children often brought home. Tobias, a blue and gold macaw, fondly mimicked Linda’s voice and laugh, often calling for Michael. Each time, Michael hurried indoors, only to discover it was the macaw’s playful imitation, not his mother’s actual call. Through her genuine affection for furry and feathered companions, Linda instilled in her children a respect for all creatures great and small. Linda’s strong work ethic left a lasting impression on both her son and daughter. It shines through in their respective professional achievements, serving as a testament to the values she instilled in them.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who provided support and care for our mother during her journey. To all the care teams at Saddleback Memorial, your kindness and tender care during her final days brought immense comfort to her and to us. We are deeply grateful for the dedication of her long-time cardiologist, Dr. Ramin Rabbani, and her primary care physician, Dr. Shaparak Kamarei, whose expertise and compassion made a meaningful difference in her life.

Her children, Michael and Jennifer, deeply cherish the sacrifices she made to ensure their well-being and success. Her support and encouragement, whether it was attending school performances, cheering at soccer matches, or helping us as we navigated young adulthood will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Linda’s presence, with her infectious laughter and innate charm, will be missed. Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void, yet her legacy of resilience and love will continue to guide and inspire those she held dear.

A private memorial service will be held for the family. The family kindly requests that instead of sending flowers or gift cards, those wishing to honor Linda’s memory consider making a donation to one of the following charities in her name:
