Gloria Marie (Fiorenza) Aiello passed away on February 10, 2021 at the age of 91.  During her final hour she was surrounded by the family she loved so very much, as she was for her life.

Gloria was born in Rome, New York on May 28, 1929. Her parents Joseph Fiorenza and Clementine (Clara) D’Alessio Fiorenza immigrated respectively from South (Calabria) and Central (Rome) Italy through Ellis Island in the early 1900’s.

On November 28, 1946 at 17 years old, Gloria Fiorenza married John R. Aiello, also from Rome, NY,, at their local Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist, and had three of their four children, Frank, Linda and Johnny.

The Aiello’s moved the family to California and bought their first home in Costa Mesa, CA in 1959 where in August 1962 their fourth child, Joycelyn, was born.  Only four years later, they suffered a tremendous loss with the death of their son Johnny from his battle with cancer.  He was 12 years old.

After many wonderful years raising their children in Costa Mesa (where the family agrees was the “most awesome neighborhood”), Gloria and John moved to Irvine, CA where they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary before John’s death a year later.

Gloria is preceded in death by her husband John, son Johnny, sister Antoinette and brothers Albert and Fred, as well as her sisters-in-law Connie, Helen and Mary.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Julia; her loving children Frank & Karen Aiello, Linda, and Joycelyn; grandchildren Tony, Stacy, Megan and Kelsie; great grandchildren John, Tanya, Abby, and Mia; and great great grandson Michael. And throughout the years, she warmly welcomed an extended family of 19 spouses and grandchildren.

  1. Sending mine and my Son’s Raymond and Cory’s condolences, love and prayers to Linda, Tony, Deena and Family, Jocelyn, Frank and Karen the extended Aiello family.

Especially to my Best Friend, Linda, who was in 10th Grade, also, when we met at lunchtime on my very first day at Costa Mesa HS in April 1965.
My family had moved there, after my life had been spent in San Pedro.
I was still angry with my Mother for uprooting us. And nervous on first day at a new school.

It was my great fortune to meet her. That was one of the best and luckiest days of my whole life.
I thought it then, and I still do.

Not only did I gain a lifelong Best Friend, I got to meet her Family and spend a lot of time at the Aiello home.
Gloria and John treated me like one of their own. I felt special. And I loved her brothers, too, Frank and Johnny, even though I already had three of my own!
Jocelyn, was only about 2yrs old.
Such a darling little baby girl who made the family complete.

For a time, I wished Gloria was my Mother. Gloria and John seemed so wise, kind and they disciplined with love.
Such a close, loving family, you could feel It in their presence and interaction.
I loved the experìencing the close Italian loving, sometimes a little loud family, with always great food!

It was devastating when Johnny got sick and passed. He was so young, like us. I couldn’t understand It.
It was my first big heartbreak.
I was glad to just be there for Linda, during this tragedy.
During her heartbreaking time, Gloria made such a huge impression on me, as the most amazingly graceful, strongest woman in the world.
She never knew, but she helped me deal with it.
I believe it was because of their deep faith in God that they were all able to get through it as a family.

Linda and I had baby boys at 19.
    It wasn’t planned that way.
They are only 13 days apart.
Both just turned 51 in January.
They played together as babies and toddlers.
But, then life happened and we were separated. I wish we would have stayed real close and my boy’s could have known Gloria and John’s love.
But, Linda and I are always together in heart, soul and spirit, forever.

After many years apart and only phone calls and a little Facebook time with Linda here and there, I was able to visit and spend a little time with her in Sept 2017.
We reunited for our 50th CMHS Reunion, and I drove down and stayed the night with her.
It was as if no time had passed by!
We had a wonderful visit and fun time at the Reunion.

There was John, he came over to Linda’s in his wheelchair to see us two all dressed up for the big night out! I felt so honored!
With a big hug and smile and same jovial, happy self and with some joking of course! We took a few beautiful photos outside, which I treasure.
Jocelyn was sweet and came to see me there, too. All grown up and so very beautiful and accomplished young lady.

There was Gloria, the next day in her home, before I had to depart, I got see her and say hello.
After many years she looked exactly the same!
She was just as warm, welcoming, vivacious and beautiful as ever!
With that same big, beautiful smile that can light up the sun.
I remember it, and see it like yesterday! I was 18 again for a few secondsI
I got a couple of big hugs from her, too.

I pray both Gloria and John knew how much I always loved them and what a great impression they had on my life
    in my teen’s.
To value kindness, love, honesty, respect, honor, commitment.
Reinforcing the same kinds of values as my Parent’s.
I didn’t start out to write a story but, I have so many great memories of such a beautiful woman and how she came into and impacted my life.
I felt the need to share some.

    I love you Linda.
Your Mother will be greatly missed by all who knew her. ˜

I hope your memories will bring you comfort and soon a smile before they bring tears.

You were all so blessed, Linda, Frank, Jocelyn to have your wonderful Mother and Father, too, for as long as you did.
    It’s never long enough.
And the Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, Great-Great- Grandchild!
    How wonderful for them! ❤

I know they are together now. ˜
    Heaven has another Angel. ‡

    RIP Gloria

    Much Love,
    Dianna McConnachie
