Obituary

Emily “Em” Anne Holladay Haney peacefully passed at the age of 86 on August 8, 2020, in Mission Viejo California. She was born July 19th, 1934 in Washington D.C. Her family moved to Southern California when she was 8 years old. Em was a graduate of UCLA with a degree in Apparel & Merchandising. She married her sweetheart Marvin Robert Haney on August 18th, 1956. They were happily married for 64 years! She was most known for her position as a counselor at San Pedro Hospital for 18 years and also worked at the Rolling Hills General Store for many years. She loved to travel, ride horses, dance and play tennis. Whenever music was playing, no matter what kind, Em would always be dancing. She was famous for her Tahitian shimmy and taught her two children and four grandchildren her moves. Family members and friends always looked forward to their personalized cards she’d create on her computer and send with the Em’s Art logo on the back. Her sweet smile and bright eyes are seen in the thousands of photos that can be found in the albums she compiled over the years of her family & friends.

Organizations she was involved with include: Pi Beta Phi, San Pedro Memorial Hospital, Alcoholics Anonymous (49 years), House of Hope and Friends of Tahiti.

Em or “Tutu”, to her grandchildren, is survived by her husband Marvin Haney, her daughter Shawna Lyn Haney Larios & Michael Larios (Lake Tahoe, Nevada), and son Richard Thomas Haney and Catherine Ann Haney (Irvine, California). Her grandchildren that she adored: Tiana Dasia Larios (Curitiba, Brazil), Ian Robert Larios (Bali, Indonesia), Heather Nicole Haney (Irvine, California), and Mackenzie Lynn Haney (Phoenix, Arizona). She loved her world experiences as she traveled to 30+ countries over the years, including many countries to visit her grandchildren. Hawaii & Lake Tahoe were her favorite US vacation spots.

Her grandchildren describe her as funny, energetic, sassy, gregarious and full of life. Em gave her family and friends much care & advice. She will be missed by all that loved her.

There is no memorial service planned.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to: House of Hope.

Emily was my first sponsor in Palos Verdes in 1987. I can remember clearly, sitting in the Jolly Roger with her as she walked me through the fourth step. I still read the daily morning and evening devotionals she gifted me.
What a gift she was to me and so many others. I am grateful to have know her and learned from her.
Rest In Peace, Em. Love you.
