Born in: Teaneck, New Jersey
Resided in: Lake Forest, California

David Andrew Scott, age 85, of Lake Forest, California, peacefully passed away on June 27, 2020. Born on July 16, 1934, in Teaneck, New Jersey, David was the son of the late Vera Gertrude Louderman Scott Gallo and Joseph Aloysius Scott. He had four siblings, Joseph Scott, Virginia Scott Haindl, John Scott, and Richard Scott.

David grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey, and spent many happy days with extended family in Ridgewood and Hohokus. Having found him to be an energetic child, his late mother used to like to say, “He was all boy.” David graduated from Holy Family High School in 1953, and attended Villanova University on a baseball scholarship, and later, Seton Hall. From 1957 to 1959, he served in the U.S. Army, assigned to Finance and Accounting at Fort Riley, Kansas, and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

He met his beloved wife, Nancy Anne Voss, while at Seton Hall, and they married in 1960 at St. Joseph’s Church in Union City, New Jersey. He began his forty-year career in sales, starting at Kleinerts, which soon transferred the young couple to the Mid-West. They lived briefly in Peoria and Rockford, Illinois, and then settled in Golden Valley, Minnesota, where they raised their four children, Thomas David Scott, Cynthia Elizabeth Scott, Michael David Scott, and Brent David Scott. David relished his role as a husband and father. He loved leading family activities, from taking trips to the lakes and camping, to bringing the family to fireworks and state fairs. He often brought the family “back East” to New Jersey, and to Chicago, to visit family. As an avid athlete and sports fan, David coached several of his son’s teams, including Little League baseball and basketball. Due to his “tremendous physical condition,” he survived a serious health emergency in 1976, spending six months in the hospital before recovering and earning a second lease on life. In 1979, his employer moved the family to Southern California, where they settled in the City of Orange.

In addition to continuing his career, David joined Bally’s Gym and later LA Fitness, where he enjoyed working out for the next forty years. He continued his role as family social director, exploring everything Southern California had to offer and taking Nancy on several cruises. He cheered his favorite sports teams, the LA Dodgers and Lakers, and never forgot his Minnesota Vikings and Villanova Wildcats. He retired in 1999 and later moved with his wife to Lake Forest, California. He enjoyed a long and active retirement, traveling, holding season tickets to concerts and theater performances at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and season passes for Disneyland. David loved keeping up with the latest news and developments in health, current events and travel destinations. With over fifty-four subscriptions to magazines, plus newspapers and newsletters from the Mayo Clinic and Harvard Medical School, he always made clippings of interest to give to family members. David volunteered as a Big Brother, and attended Santiago de Compostella Catholic Church in Lake Forest, where he enjoyed Bible Study and the friends he made there. He previously overcame two bouts of cancer, with a third diagnosis emerging in October 2019.

He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, daughter Cynthia, three sons Thomas, Michael and Brent, his son-in-law Gregory George Reeves, daughter-in-law Wendy Boyer Scott, and two grandchildren, Emma Joy Scott and Sophie Grace Scott, as well as his siblings, Virginia and John, and sister-in-law Janet Scott, and their children and grandchildren.

The family has requested that any flowers be sent to O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA , 92653, or in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Kaiser Hospice Care Services, Bereavement Department, 17542 17th  Street, Suite 300, Tustin, CA 92780.
